Before a planned unification bout with Danny Roman, WBO super bantamweight champ Isaac Dogboe will defend his title against #6 Hidenori Otake on August 25th. The fight will take place somewhere in the USA.
Dogboe (19-0, 13 KO) has enjoyed a breakout 2018, starting with a January mauling of Cesar Juarez and following up with an 11th-round stoppage of Jessie Magdaleno for the title. “Royal Storm” looks like a potential superstar at the age of 23 and the prospect of a fight with fellow aggressor Roman is tantalizing.
He’ll have to get through Otake (31-2-3, 14 KO) first. The OPBF champion’s only loss in the last decade came against Scott Quigg and he’s beaten some decent countrymen. He’s also 5.5” taller than Dogboe, although it’s unlikely durability and length will be enough to overcome the Ghanaian’s skills, speed, and power.
BoxRec says that Ray Beltran’s first title defense, presumably against Jose Pedraza or Roman Andreev, will be on the card as well. The WBO ordered a Beltran-Andreev purse bid for today, in fact, so we’ll see how that goes.
