IT WILL BE A REMATCH BETWEEN PH NESTHY PETECIO AND JPN’S SENA IRIE FOR THE GOLD MEDAL BOUT!

Philippine pride Nesthy Petecio needs to repeat her antics for the fourth time to be able to clinch the second Olympic Gold medal for the Philippines when she dances into that boxing ring on August 3rd against Japanese Sena Irie.

Irie and Petecio saw action the first time in August of 2019 in Bangkok for the ASBC Elite Boxing Championships where Sena-san won via a Split Decision, they met again later that year at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in October of 2019 at the Quarterfinals for the Women’s Featherweight (54-57kg). Petecio performed a convincing unanimous decision and advanced to the finals and won over Russia’s Liudmila Vorontsova.

Petecio, later on, drew a Majority Decision win over the Japanese sensation on March 2020 at the Asian/Oceanian Qualifying Event in Jordan.

This fight will be one for the books as it will be between Asians in the very first medal tally in the Olympics’ Women Featherweight Division, the same as that of the Middleweight.
