By Robert CosterMexican welterweight Ivan Alvarez arrived in the Dominican Republic yesterday, apparently very confident on the outcome of his clash this coming Friday against local favorite Carlos Adames. Alvarez (23-6, 16 KOs), a 5’11 southpaw, told Fightnews.com that “Adames is a good prospect but he will be way over his head when he steps in the ring against me. My experience will be the difference. I’m going to drag him into deep waters where he’s never been before.”

The fight, scheduled for 11 rounds, will be for the WBA Fedelatin title held by Adames (8-0, 7 KOs), who is ranked 14th by the WBA. Says Alvarez who has won 10 of his last 11 fights, “it makes me smile that a kid with eight fights is the champion and I’m the challenger. One thing I do know is that the Fedelatin belt is going on that plane back to Mexico.”

The card, promoted by Upper Promotions, is being held at the plush Jaragua Renaissance Hotel and Casino and will be televised (CDN channel).
