JACK BRUBAKER VS. CAMERON HAMMOND SET FOR COMMONWEALTH TITLE

LONG serving Sydney promoter Paul Nasari has pulled off one of the biggest promotional coups of the year.

The head of Neutral Corner Promotions has secured the first Commonwealth welterweight title between two Australians in fifteen years with a salivating matchup between Jack Brubaker and Cameron Hammond.
The in-form Brubaker (11-1-1, 5 KOs) and the undefeated former Olympian Hammond (16-0, 11 KOs) will fight for the prestigious strap at the Sports Centre in Sydney’s Olympic Park precinct in Homebush on October 29th.
A buoyant Nasari was thrilled at the prospect of securing such a high-profile fight and title for his October card.
“The Commonwealth title is one of the most legitimate and prestigious titles in boxing,” said Nasari to Aus-Boxing.
“It has a history that dates back to the late 1800s. There have been so many great fighters to have won this belts, including Ted Lewis, Lloyd Honeyghan, and Aussies George Barnes, Brian Janssen and Wilf Gentzen,”
“The last Commonwealth title fight between two Aussies was when Julian Holland stopped Shannan Taylor.”
Brubaker, 24, has endured a marquee twelve month spell, stopping durable Chinese import Xing Xin Yang last August to secure unified WBC regional baubles, before defeating Paddy Murphy in an OPBF title defence in March.
In addition to this, the Cronulla-native solidified his place as one of the country’s best welterweights when he outscored credentialed Japanese veteran Suyon Takayama at Tokyo’s legendary Korakuen Hall last month.
In Hammond, 26, Brubaker will be facing the most credentialed opponent of his professional career with the Moree-native looking at home in the paid ranks, while remaining relatively unchallenged thus far as a professional.
The Indigenous ace made his first appearance for the year in July, outscoring Devdarshan Singh in New Delhi.
Nasari believes that on October 29, the confident duo have all the ingredients to create a Fight of the Year candidate.
“Brubaker and Hammond are two boxers approaching the prime of their career,” concluded Nasari.
“Too often in boxing we see fights that heavily favour one boxer, this is a genuine 50/50 fight. Hammond is a former Olympian – and is undefeated as a pro – while Brubaker is coming off the biggest win of his career,”
“He traveled to Japan and beat local hero Suyon Takayama and now he’s stepping up again to fight Hammond,”
“Both boxers are in devastating form and nobody could confidently pick a winner for this bout.
