In a spectacular home/coming, Jaime Mungúa (39-0, 31 ko’s) finished D’Mitrius Ballard (21-1-1, 13 ko’s) in the 3rd round, in the stellar contest presented by Zanfer and Golden Boy in the Plaza Monumental de Tijuana
The show registered an attendance of more than 12,000 fans who welcomed 🇲🇽 Munguía home, after 4 years absence.
The first two rounds were at a semi-slow pace with Munguía measuring Ballard’s movements, accommodating himself in the distance and giving “warnings” of his long-distance blows.
The American Ballard wanted to impose his jab and keep the fight at a semi-slow pace, seeking to take Munguía into the second part of the fight, and then print his speed.
However, Muguia came out determined in the 3rd champing round to impose his power, and began to unleash power shots with more frequency and effectiveness.
An overhand left slammed into Ballard’s chin, sending him staggering backwards.
Realizing that Ballard was “touched”, Munguía went after him, pinning him against the ropes, impacting him with a powerful combinations, landing with both hands, to the head and body, which sent the visibly injured Ballard to the canvas, with his face against the floor. (Check Photo)
Ballard recovered with a knee on the canvas to get the referee up to 8 on his count, and got up.
But Munguía immediately went over the American, who showed no mobility or defense.
Ballard took two more power shots, and the referee intervened to decree the TKO in favor of Munguía at the 1:47 minute mark in chapter 3.
With the victory, Jaime Munguía defended his WBO Middleweight Intercontinental Title, putting himself on the front line to challenge for a world Strap later this year.
In the post-fight interview, Munguía thanked fans and his promoters 🇲🇽 Beltrán and 🇲🇽🇺🇸 Óscar de la Hoya.
“Thank you all fans for your support, for being here in Tijuana.
“Here I was born. Here you saw me grow up and start my career.
“I feel very moved and very grateful to you.
“Viva Tijuana!!!”” Munguía exclaimed, prompting fans cheers and jubilation
