Jake Matthews is getting a shot at redemption in Australia.
The 24-year-old welterweight was defeated by Anthony Rocco Martin in his home country last December and he now faces Sweden’s Rostem Akman at UFC 243, which is scheduled to take place at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Oct. 5. Officials announced the matchup Thursday.
Prior to being submitted by Martin, Matthews (14-4) had won three straight fights after moving up to 170 pounds. Matthews, who hails from Melbourne, debuted as a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter Nations back in 2014 and has since compiled a 7-4 record inside the Octagon.
Akman (6-1) made his UFC debut in his native Sweden this past June as a short-notice replacement for an injured Bartosz Fabinski. He went on to lose a unanimous decision to Sergey Khandozhko. In his pre-UFC career, Akman won all of his fights by knockout or submission.
