Welterweight Jamal James has his next fight set, as the 30-year-old from Minneapolis will host Mexico’s Mahonry Montes on Friday, August 24, headlining a Premier Boxing Champions card on FS1.

James (23-1, 10 KO) is a physical oddity, standing 6’2” at 147 pounds, and has won three straight since dropping a decision to red hot Yordenis Ugas in 2016. He’s beaten Jo Jo Dan, Diego Chaves, and most recently Abel Ramos in that time, though the win in April over Ramos was a majority decision, and closer than many expected going in.

Montes (35-7-1, 24 KO) is a sideways step for James, a 28-year-old from Los Mochis who has past losses to the likes of Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Keandre Gibson, Ashley Theophane, and Humberto Soto. He started his career as a featherweight back in 2006.

Also in action will be two-time middleweight title challenger Willie Monroe Jr (22-3, 6 KO), who will face Immanuwel Aleem (18-1-1, 11 KO) in a 10-round bout. Welterweight prospect Jamontay Clark (13-0, 7 KO) will also lace up on the card, taking on Jeiso Rosario (15-1-1, 11 KO) in another 10-round fight.
