James Tennyson gives update following World Title defeat

James Tennyson took a shot and came up short in Boston last night.

The Belfast super featherweight was stopped in the fifth round by reigning IBF champion Tevin Farmer at the TD Garden but has pledged to go again..

Left hooks to the body took Tennyson out, with the 25-year-old being dropped in the fourth and then hurt badly and dropped again in the fifth with the bout being waved off by referee Arthur Mercante Jr.

While Tennyson [22(18)-3(3)] and his team were disappointed that he was not given a chance to beat the count following the second knockdown, there were no excuses from ‘The Assassin’ following a loss to a top fighter.

Giving an update to his fans, family, and friends, Tennyson took to social media today and posted the following statement.

The popular Poleglass power puncher said that “waking up the day after fight day sometimes can be a tough morning, today is one of them!”

“Absolutely devastated the fight just didn’t go my way, I could say this and I could say that though I was beat and have to accept it.”

“As the saying goes the comeback is always greater than the setback!”

“At the age of 25 I worked my way up to a world title fight in America, something I’ll never forget regardless of the decision.”

“I want to thank each and every person for their support and messages. it was amazing to have everyone behind me, what a feeling – and massive thanks to my team, you’ve been great!”

“We go again!”

While we will see him back in the ring next year, Tennyson’s next move is unclear.

The soon-to-be father retains his Commowealth 130lbs belt but may perhaps move up in weight and start afresh at lightweight.

For now, though, Tennyson will enjoy some time off with family.
