Naoya Inoue is wasting zero time.

The two-division champ, who announced his intention to move to bantamweight before his beatdown of Yoann Boyeaux, is reportedly close to a deal to face WBA bantamweight champ Jamie McDonnell in May. Eddie Hearn, who promotes McDonnell, says that he hopes to close “this week.”

McDonnell (29-2-1, 13 KO), who first made his name with wins over another Japanese young gun in Tomoki Kameda, should be commended if this fight goes through, especially since the current targeted location is Tokyo. Inoue (15-0, 13 KO) is an absolute destroyer who most rational individuals would avoid at all costs.

Ryan Burnett ought to be taking notes.

Does anyone think McDonnell stands a chance, or is this just Inoue’s latest conquest?
