Jamie Munguia vs Takeshi Inoue set for Jan. 26

Two title fights are coming to Houston next month.

Jaime Munguia will defend his WBO junior middleweight title on Jan. 26 at the Toyota Center in Houston, facing Japan’s Takeshi Inoue in the main event, which will stream live on DAZN.

Munguia (31-0, 26 KO) had a breakout 2018, first being mentioned as a possible replacement opponent in May for Gennady Golovkin, when the Canelo-GGG rematch fell apart the first time, an idea which was ultimately turned down by the Nevada commission.

Munguia got his chance to shine on May 12, however, making his HBO debut and dropping Sadam Ali four times en route to a fourth round stoppage, winning the WBO 154-pound belt.

He’s defended twice this year, knocking off Liam Smith in July, and tearing through Brandon Cook on the Canelo-GGG II undercard in September.

Inoue (13-0-1, 7 KO) is a 29-year-old fighter who really hasn’t competed above the domestic level in Japan, but he’s ranked as the No. 3 contender by the WBO, which doesn’t mean much, but it’s why he’s got the fight.

The card will also feature Jesus Rojas (26-2-2, 19 KO) taking on China’s Xu Can (15-2, 2 KO) for the WBA “world” featherweight title.
