JAPANESE EX-WORLD CHAMP KOHEI TO FIGHT IN COC3


DEF Promotions’ Director and Hong Kong Boxing Promotor Jay Lau is glad to announce that ex-WBA World Super Flyweight title holder Kohei Kono (33-10-1, 13KOs) and his promotor Mr. Watanabe is signing the contract, to confirm his appearance at “Clash of Champions 3”, which he will fight against the conic Hong Kong professional boxer Rex “The Wonder Kid” Tso (21-0-0, 13 KO).

Following a victory by a 5-round TKO against Thai boxer Rambo Sithsaithong, Kohei Kono made his way to fight for the WBO International Title against Rex Tso. Mr. Jay Lau, DEF Promotions’ Director and Hong Kong Boxing Promotor, signed the fight contract with Kohei Kono and his promotor Mr. Watanabe today at Watanabe Gym, Tokyo. “We have been longing to match Rex with Kohei Kono since 2015, unfortunately we were not able to make that fight happen, we missed a chance for Rex to fight for a title 2 years ago and we finally made it happen. The Hong Kong and Japan boxing fans are also looking forward to this big fight, and we are glad to bring this to the Hong Kong fans,” said Mr. Jay Lau.

He added, “Rex will have a chance to challenge WBO super flyweight World Champion, the “Monster” Naoya Inoue, and Kono had a match with Inoue. This fight between Rex and Kono is a test for Rex, and we can see the result as a reference for Rex to fight Inoue in the future.”

Kohei Kono, 36 years of age, was a long-distance runner since he was a high school student and became a physio-therapist after his graduate. He made his debut in 2000, and made his first attempt to fight for a world title in 2008. Kono “The Tough Boy” defended his WBA super flyweight title against Kokei Kameda, one of the most famous boxer in Japan, and that fight made him a well-known name across the nation.
