Jarrell Miller vs Tomasz Adamek reportedly planned for October 6

Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing are reportedly planning an October 6 fight between rising heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller and faded former light heavyweight and cruiserweight titleholder Tomasz Adamek.

Dan Rafael of ESPN notes, “Some close to Hearn have voiced their concerns over how much of a gross mismatch the fight is.”

Miller (21-0-1, 18 KO) is a 30-year-old true heavyweight from New York, with decent wins thus far over Gerald Washington, Mariusz Wach, and most recently, Johann Duhaupas. There are concerns about his weight and conditioning going forward, but he’s a legitimate player in the heavyweight division right now.

Adamek (53-5, 31 KO), on the other hand, is a 41-year-old fighter who has passed his sell-by date, and has always sort of been cosplaying as a heavyweight in the first place. His biggest fight in the division came in 2011, when he was dominated by Vitali Klitschko and stopped in the 10th round.

Since then, he’s stayed in the second or third or fourth tier of the division, and has lost fights to the likes of Vyacheslav Glazkov, Artur Szpilka, and Eric Molina, who knocked Adamek out in 2016. He has won three straight since then, beating Solomon Haumono, Fred Kassi, and Joey Abell, and he clearly has the desire to fight.

But he’s small, old, and hasn’t been a relevant fighter in years, opting to stay in Poland, where he’s very popular, and take mid-level fights. That’s fine, but there’s legitimate reason to be appalled by Hearn looking to feed Adamek to Miller, who will really prove nothing with a victory.

Still, if it happens, and to play devil’s advocate for a second here, I’m sure we can expect a spirited effort from Adamek, who has always been enjoyable to watch and gives a great effort. He’s a fighter, no question.
