Jarrell Miller wants Dillian Whyte in April

Boxingnews24.com

By Tim Royner: Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (20-0-1, 18 KOs) wants to fight #1 WBC Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (22-1, 16 KOs) in April in a heavyweight title eliminator to get a chance to fight IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Miller wants to earn the fight against Joshua, even though he’ll eventually be given the fight if he just keeps winning. Miller is with the same promoter as Joshua, in Eddie Hearn, and he’s already talking about wanting to match the two of them against each other soon.

Deontay Wilder turned down a fight against Whyte. He wants no part of that fight unless it leads to a unification match against Joshua.

Miller, 29, is serious about wanting to fight Whyte. The only question is will Whyte and his promoter Eddie Hearn go along with the deal? Whyte wants a title shot against Wilder or Joshua. Settling for a tough fighter like Miller might not be what Whyte has in mind.

Whyte struggled in his last fight in beating past his best Robert Helenius last month on October 28 in Cardiff, Wales. Whyte won the fight but he was hurt at one by a right hand from Helenius, and it was not the performance that he needed to show that he deserves a title shot against Wilder or Joshua.

“Yeah, I think Dillian Whyte would be the perfect guy to knock the hell out,” said Miller to skysports.com. “He fought a taxi cab driver on his American debut that no one really cared about. I think this would be an awesome fight, for me and Dillian to headline in April.”

If the sanctioning bodies go along with the idea of Miller vs. Whyte being for a title shot, it might be worth it for Whyte to take the fight. However, Whyte doesn’t need to fight Miller to get a title shot against Joshua. Promoter Eddie Hearn is going to give Whyte the rematch with Joshua sooner or later even if he fights nothing but domestic level heavyweights.

Whyte isn’t Wilder’s mandatory for his WBC title yet, but the World Boxing Council likely won’t force him to fight a dangerous heavyweight for him to become the mandatory. Whyte is with a good promoter in Hearn, and that might be enough for him to be given the mandatory spot regardless of who he faces. Having to go through Miller would be a real problem for Whyte with the way he’s fighting now.

“I think the eliminator would be one of us fight either Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua right after that. Definitely after that fight, I should be in the mandatory position. There is no ifs and buts about it,” said Miller.
