IBF/WBA junior middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd once again has called out Kell ‘Special One’ Brook for a fight. Hurd sent a message to former IBF welterweight belt holder Brook (37-2, 26 KOs) on Monday, telling him that the two should face each other after the 32-year-old Brit fights in July.

”After July, let’s make it happen. ⚡️ #HurdBrook #SwiftNation,”

I think it would be a miracle if Brook takes the fight with Hurd, because it’s such a bad match-up for him in terms of size, power, youth and talent. Hurd is in the prime of his career, and he’s coming off of a big victory over Erislandy Lara last April. Most boxing fans would pick Lara to beat Brook, and the ones that picked against him would be proven wrong. Brook can make more money fighting 31-year-old Amir Khan in a cash out fight in the UK on Sky Box Office.

Khan-Brook wouldn’t sell in the U.S, but in the UK people want to see that fight and they would pay to see it. Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t going to let him get anywhere near Hurd. That’s a nonstarter, and not just because of the Khan fight. I don’t see Heard EVER letting Brook fight Hurd.

Believe me; there will be excuses made by Hearn for the remainder of Brook’s career when Hurd’s name is brought up. Hurd isn’t going to wait around for the rest of his boxing career for Heard to give Brook the green light to fight him. Hurd will soon be moving up to middleweight, and once he does that, Hearn will have the excuse to give boxing fans for why he doesn’t have to make the Brook vs. Hurd fight.

Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) might be wasting his time calling out Brook, who has spent much of his career fighting soft opposition like Matthew Hatton, Frankie Gavin, Jo Jo Dan and Sergey Rabchenko. When Brook did step up twice against Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence, he was broken apart and forced to quit in both fights.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn has name dropping by mentioning Hurd, but he’s also made a point of letting the boxing fans know that the fight that he really wants for the ‘Special K’ to fight Khan, who is arguably a much easier fight than Hurd. It’s likely Hearn will be able to sell two fights between Brook and Khan to the British boxing fans before they stop buying.

Hurd needs to focus on taking on serious fighters only, and that means he needs to go after WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo in 2018. Brook is just a fighter playing out his string at this point in his career I my view. I don’t see Brook taking any true world class championship level fighters. My guess is Brook will retire after he beats Khan, and if he doesn’t, he’ll spend his time fighting other over-the-hill fighters signed with Hearn’s stable for his DAZN subscription service.
