Super featherweight contender Jason Sosa will be back in the ring on Jan. 18, when the former titleholder faces an opponent to be announced on the Jennings-Rivas undercard, streaming live on ESPN+ from Verona, New York.
Sosa (21-3-4, 15 KO) has been in the mix in the division for a while now, and the 30-year-old will look to get himself back to bigger fights soon, it would seem. He went to a controversial draw with Nicholas Walters in Dec. 2015, then upset Javier Fortuna in June 2016 to win the WBA “world” title at 130 pounds, and defended it successfully against Stephen Smith five months later.
After that, he took on Vasiliy Lomachenko for the WBO title, losing clearly by stoppage in April 2017. In his next fight, he suffered a highly debated loss to Yuriorkis Gamboa.
Most recently, he returned to beat Reynaldo Blanco in an eight-round bout on Aug. 18 in Atlantic City, on the Jennings-Dimitrenko undercard.
