Jeff Horn’s team open to rematches with Crawford, Pacquiao

Jeff Horn got schooled and stopped this past Saturday against top pound-for-pound fighter Terence Crawford, but he and his team are already on to thinking about the future, which they’re open to including a rematch with Crawford, or one with Manny Pacquiao.

Trainer Glenn Rushton says he’s “confident we could turn the tables” in a rematch with Crawford, which will be scoffed at by most, I suspect. He was dominated in the fight, never had an answer for Crawford’s speed and skill, and was taken apart until finally put away. He was not in that fight at any point, and didn’t even do well wrestling on the inside, where it was presumed he had one advantage due to being the naturally bigger man.

Rushton also mentioned a rematch with Pacquiao if Manny beats Lucas Matthysse in July, which would put the WBA “world” title on the Filipino legend. To this point, Pacquiao has seemed lukewarm about rematching Horn, believing he won the first fight and that he doesn’t need to do it again. (Or at least that’s the public face of it.)

There’s also fellow Aussie Anthony Mundine, the 43-year-old veteran who has wanted to fight Horn since Horn’s win over Pacquiao last summer. Promoter Dean Lonergan says he’s “not that keen” on a Horn-Mundine matchup, but didn’t entirely dismiss it, either.

Whomever he fights, Horn is expected back by the end of 2018 to try and shake off his first career loss.
