WBC World Champion, Jelena Mrdjenovich, star of the documentary JELENA, chronicling her career, is also a WBC Champion when it comes to giving back.
Raised in Edmonton, Canada, she took up boxing after her basketball career was totaled by an ACL injury. Almost as a last resort, she entered the boxing gym as a way to keep her body and her energy in check. Little did she know then, she would go on to become a multiple world champion and one of the most popular athletes in Canada.
Jelena works hard, slavishly, to keep her self in shape and ready to fight. She has seen both sides of the fight game. More than once, she has recovered from a losing streak, to regain her championship status. She is known as the woman who will fight anyone. Her driving, competitive nature is a part of what makes her so attractive as a boxer. She’s the “no give-up” girl. And she passes that along others.
And yet, there’s another side of this woman that isn’t as well known. She is one of our best and most committed members of WBC Cares and never misses an opportunity to give back. Whether it’s a hospital, or the World Longest Baseball Game (Cancer Awareness), Jelena is, of course, first in line to help.
Long after Jelena hangs up her gloves, those people she’s helped along the way, will remember her as their personal WBC Champion.
