Jerwin Ancajas promising aggression against Santiago

The super flyweight titleholder returns Friday.

Jerwin Ancajas is set to defend his IBF super flyweight title again on Friday night against Alejandro Santiago, live on ESPN+, and the 26-year-old Filipino flatly says he’s looking to make it up to fans for his last fight.

In his last outing, Ancajas (30-1-1, 20 KO) mostly had to grind out a win over countryman Jonas Sultan, going the 12-round distance in a fight that just never meshed, never clicked for entertainment.

“We’re preparing hard to have a better performance in this fight. Coach Joven (Jimenez) said we will be more aggressive. We really want to make up for the last fight.”

Ancajas is not a boring fighter by nature, so you can put some stock into this. Add in the fact that Santiago (16-2-4, 7 KO) is not a big threat on paper, and we may indeed see Ancajas looking to thrill early. Now if Santiago proves capable of standing up to that potential aggression and making a fight of it, that could change.
