Jesus Soto Karass: I have a lot of fighting in me left

Super welterweight fan favorite Jesus “El Renuente” Soto Karass (28-10-4, 18 KOs) of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, is days away from his rematch with Japanese warrior Yoshihiro Kamegai, (26-3-2, 23 KOs) this Saturday at the Forum in Los Angeles live on HBO World Championship Boxing. Fightnews.com caught up with Soto Karass as he talked about his upcoming rematch with Kamegai.

“This is the rematch. I believe I won the first fight. I didn’t lose or draw that fight,” Jesus Soto Karass told Fightnews.com®.

Soto Karass and Kamegai went toe to toe for ten rounds in what was definitely a fight of the year candidate setting the stage for an immediate rematch.

“He’s a kamikaze. I have nothing bad to say. He leaves it all in the ring,” Soto Karass said. “The last fight was non-stop at times we hit each other with low blows and kidney shots but that comes with the territory when you fight.”

Soto Karass held camp in southern California training at the SCMT Boxing Gym in Montebello, working with his longtime trainer Ramon “Yuquita” Morales.

“Camp was great. We worked more on utilizing the jab. Oscar de la Hoya mentioned to me that I had a good jab and that could be the key for this fight. So we focused on the jab a lot this camp,” Soto Karass said. “We know this fight with Kamegai will be a war. Winning this fight will open some doors.”

A veteran of over forty fights, Soto Karass never disappoints and is never in a dull fight. Having been in battles with the likes of Keith Thurman, Andre Berto, Devon Alexander, Marcos Maidana, Selcuk Aydin, and Gab Rosado, “El Renuente” the “Reluctant One” as they call him is not going away anytime soon as he looks to fight on.

“Everyone says I’m done, but I will show you all that I have a lot of fighting in me left,” Soto Karass said. “After this fight, there will be a huge possibility of a trilogy.”

Soto Karass vs. Kamegai 2 will be a scheduled ten round super welterweight bout and will be the co-headliner to the Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez vs Carlos Cuadras super flyweight showdown opening up the HBO World Championship Boxing telecast.

“The plan for this fight is to be smart but in that ring everything will change,” Soto Karass said. “As far as I’m concerned I will come to fight. Everyone knows what I am about and I will go and try to knock him out.”
