Jimmy Smith is heading Down Under.
The former longtime Bellator color commentator tweeted Wednesday night that he’ll be making his UFC debut in that same role at UFC 221 on Feb. 11 in Perth, Western Australia.
First color gig for the UFC!! See you there at #UFC221
Smith was scooped up by the UFC earlier this month after parting ways with Bellator in December. He had been with the promotion for nine years, almost the entire duration of Bellator’s existence. Smith appeared on UFC television for the first time as part of the FS1 analyst desk at UFC 220 last weekend in Boston.
Smith, 40, is a former fighter and regarded as one of the better color men in the sport. He’ll likely be paired with UFC play-by-play man Jon Anik for UFC 221. Anik was actually the play-by-play voice for Bellator’s first season in 2009 with color man Jason Chambers. Sean Wheelock and Smith took over the following year.
