Jimmy Wallhead vs. Warlley Alves booked for UFC Gdansk

Both Jimmy Wallhead and Warlley Alves will attempt to turn around two-fight losing streaks when the welterweights collide at UFC Gdansk on Oct. 21 at the Ergo Arena.

UFC’s European office announced the fight on Thursday morning through its social media networks.

As a veteran of the European scene, Wallhead’s signing to the UFC was celebrated in the UK having collected wins under the Bellator, Cage Warriors, BAMMA and KSW banners.

Yet, in his two outings for the promotion thus far, the 33-year-old is still in search of his first win in the Octagon.

Wallhead debuted in Hamburg last September where he met surging German, Jessin Ayari. Despite giving a good account of himself on the night, the Fight UK MMA man lost out by a close split decision. “Judo” Jimmy’s next test came at UFC 212 in Brazil where Luan Chagassubmitted him in the second round via rear-naked choke.

While Wallhead will certainly be in a foreboding position with the promotion should he collect another loss in the Octagon, Alves is sure to present a difficult task as he finds himself in a precarious position of his own having picked up consecutive losses to Kamaru Usman and Bryan Barberena, the first defeats of his professional career.

The Brazilian boasts a winning record with the UFC at 4-2, and he certainly has more high-profile wins than the Englishman in terms of the promotion’s current rankings.

After a debut win over Marcio Alexandre Jr., then undefeated Alves went on an impressive three-fight win streak that saw him claim a decision over Alan Jouban and submissions overNordine Taleb and Colby Covington – who tasted his first defeat at the hands of the Brazilian.
