Joanne Calderwood is back and this time at 125 pounds.
“JoJo” will compete for the first time since July 2017 when she fights Kalindra Faria in a women’s flyweight bout at UFC Lincoln on Aug. 25 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb. Sources confirmed the bout with MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz, and the UFC officially announced the bout on Friday.
ESPN was first to report the matchup.
In her last appearance vs. Cynthia Calvillo at UFC Glasgow, a strawweight affair, Calderwood (11-3) missed weight by two pounds and went on to lose a unanimous decision. She now moves up to the 125-pound division, where she has competed once in the UFC. Calderwood and Valerie Letourneau fought in the promotion’s first-ever women’s flyweight bout on June 18, 2016, at UFC Ottawa, where Calderwood defeated Letourneau by third-round TKO.
Faria (18-7-1) has failed to pick up a win in her two appearances with the UFC thus far, falling toJessica Eye and Mara Romero Borella. The Brazilian had won three straight before joining the UFC roster, including a unanimous decision win over veteran Carina Damm that netted her a Titan FC bantamweight title.
