Britain’s Joe Joyce will defend his World Boxing Council Silver heavyweight title against Cameroonian fighter Carlos Takam, at the SSE Arena in Wembley, England, on Saturday, on a broadcast by BT Sport.
Joyce (12-0, 11 KOs) is back in action for the first time since his 10th round stoppage win over Daniel Dubois last November. Takam, (39-5-1, 28 KOs) comes from defeating Jerry Forrest by unanimous decision in July of last year.
World Boxing Council silver heavyweight champion Joe Joyce recently spoke to BoxingScene about defeating Daniel Dubois in a fight in which he was not considered the favorite
“It was a turning point for me, where I went from an underdog to pretty much a fully-fledged prospect,” explained Joyce to Boxing Scene.
“It was a fight where everyone thought I was going to lose and even get knocked out in the first few rounds.
“I proved a lot of people wrong and won a lot of people money for Christmas.
“Yeah it was less pressure and the heat was on Dubois. I’ve been in a lot bigger fights, the Olympics for instance, with a lot of people watching me, so I am used to the pressure. I just get on with it and perform on the night.”
Takam, will fight in the UK for the fourth time when he encounters Joyce, who is determined to show he belongs in the heavyweight elite.
This event is presented by Frank Warren’s Queensberry in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.
