Former WBC International light heavyweight Champion , Joe Smith Jr. (23-2, 19 KO´s) will return to the ring of the Mohegan Sun Arena, after having fully recovered from a jaw injury, which kept him out, but not down, for months.
Joe suffered a loss over Sullivan Barrera in July of last year, losing his WBC International crown. Nicknamed “Common Man”, as a worker of the Construction Workers Union, he exploded on to the boxing scene in 2016., achieving important victories.
“I cannot wait to get back in the ring on June 30. I’ve been waiting for this day since they told me I needed surgery and now I plan to show why I’m one of the best in the light heavyweight division.”
Joe had a great 2016 defeating the tough fighter Andrzej Fonfara to win the WBC International title, for then inflicted the sole knockout Bernard Hopkins suffered during his entire career.
Smith Jr., despite having a promising future in boxing, has a great ethic about his day job in construction.
