Johnson vs. Teixeira, Cerrone vs. Story set for UFC 202

Anthony Johnson vs. Glover Teixeira has been rebooked for UFC 202, a card which also now boasts welterweights Donald Cerrone and Rick Story.

We have a pretty stacked set fights to look forward to for the month of July, most notably UFC 200 on the 9th, but the UFC’s lone August pay-per-view has received a pair of highly compelling bouts. On Monday, MMAjunkieconfirmed with promotion officials that Anthony Johnson vs. Glover Teixeira has been rescheduled for UFC 202 on August 20th, plus a welterweight matchup between Rick Story and Donald Cerrone is official for the card.

Johnson (21-5) has knocked out Jimi Manuwa and Ryan Bader in his last two fights. “Rumble” had fought for the vacant UFC LHW title in May 2015, but lost by rear-naked choke to Daniel Cormier. Johnson withdrew from the UFC on FOX 20 co-main event vs.Teixeira due to a “serious family matter.” Teixeira (25-4) was removed from the July 23rd card altogether after Rumble pulled out, but it obviously hasn’t taken long for this fight to find a new home. Glover, who lost to Jon Jones for the LHW title at UFC 172 in April 2014, has won his last 3 fights, including a fierce 1st round KO of Rashad Evans atUFC on FOX 19.

Cerrone (30-7, 1 NC) is 2-0 at welterweight, and he made history by becoming the first man to finish Patrick Cote with strikes. “Cowboy” got the 3rd round TKO against “The Predator” in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night in Ottawa earlier this month. Story (19-8) won a unanimous decision over Tarec Saffiedine at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on May 29th, which marked his first appearance inside the Octagon since beating Gunnar Nelson in October 2014. “The Horror” had been struggling with injuries, which forced him out of action for all of 2015. Cerrone is at #14 in the 170 lbs rankings, while Story is #9.

UFC 202 takes place in Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena and is headlined by a welterweight bout between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and lightweight contender Nate Diaz. You may recall that Diaz won their first meeting (via 2nd round rear-naked choke) in the UFC 196 main event.
