Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier go back and forth in lewd social media exchange

One of MMA’s ugliest feuds just got a little uglier.

It came as no surprise when Daniel Cormier was one of the first fighters to comment on the newsthat UFC 232 would be moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles in the wake of the Nevada State Athletic Commission refusing to license Jon Jones for Saturday’s previously scheduled light heavyweight championship main event opposite Alexander Gustafsson. After discovering a drug-test abnormality in one of Jones’s recent urine samples, the NSAC ruled that he will have to appear before a committee in January to determine when he will be allowed to compete in the state of Nevada again.

Cormier initially tweeted “He tested positive again!” in response to the news, which broke Sunday, and later followed with a post on social media in which he called out the USADA, UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky, California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster (for declaring Jones to be a “clean athlete” after testing him this weekend), and Jones himself for downplaying the amount of the banned substance that was discovered in his second drug test failure.

“Bones” took to Instagram to offer a since-deleted reply to Cormier in which he taunted his rival who he has twice bested in UFC light heavyweight title fights (their second meeting at UFC 214, originally a third-round knockout win for Jones, was overturned to a no-contest after Jones tested positive for banned substances) by making reference to Cormier’s wife:

“I could slap your wife on the ass and you could literally do nothing about it,” Jones wrote. “You’re my bitch DC, that will never change. Funny how you’re giving me two posts but said nothing when I asked you to come get your belt back.”

Cormier responded in similar fashion:

“You couldn’t do shit you steroid-abusing junkie!” Cormier wrote. “I swear I would never touch your wife’s flat ass. And I didn’t respond, I’m not helping your bum ass fight, you drug-abusing steroid cheat. F*ck you!”

The conflict only escalated from there, with Jones quoting a tweet from a fan mocking Cormier’s complaints to initiate a charitable offer to goad Cormier into a third fight, and Cormier answering with an offer of his own:

Keep the money, more stringent drug testing and no excuses or mishaps and I’ll give 125,000 to charity in Lafayette and 125,000 to a charity in San Jose. You just pay for the drug testing! #cheaterJon Bones Jones@JonnyBonesThanks for the laugh, I needed that night. $150,000 to any charity in Lafayette if he accepts my challenge. Though Jones and Cormier remain inextricably linked and will seemingly be so until the end of time, for now Jones still has to worry about winning his rematch with Gustafsson, which is still scheduled to take place on Saturday, while Cormier, still the reigning heavyweight champion, awaits his next fight booking.
