Jon Jones: I don’t need the physical belt, I feel in my heart that I am UFC champion

Bloodyelbow.com

Major misdemeanors and failed drug tests aside, there’s no denying that former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is one of the best fighters the game has ever seen. Apart from being the youngest UFC champion, he has gone through and even handily defeated some of the sport’s most notable names such as Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson, and Vitor Belfort, just to name a few.

As he remains on the sidelines awaiting his fate from USADA, “Bones” has a lot of time in his hands to be active on social media. He was even able to start a brief Twitter feud with UFC Hall-of-Famer Chuck Liddell.

But apart from beefing with 48-year-old retired fighters, Jones does respond to fans’ tweets at times. During one exchange, he spoke about his current state as the official former 205-pound champion, after one random individual gave him props.

Thanks brother, yeah I know I don’t need to hold that belt to be the champion. Sure the whole top five knows that too https://twitter.com/jugositoj/status/1001909022499528705

Another response has been deleted but was captured by MMAJunkie.

Jones last fought at UFC 214 in July, where he won the light heavyweight title from Daniel Cormier via third-round stoppage. The result, however, was subsequently overturned, after he once again failed an in-competition drug test when he tested positive for Turinabol.

Due to this infraction, the California State Athletic Commission slapped him with a $205,000 and revoked his license to fight in the said state. Jones has yet to undergo arbitration with USADA to determine his final sanction and when he will be allowed to fight again, but he is facing a maximum four-year suspension.
