Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya are on a collision course.
Last month, Jones revealed he “had a feeling” a future fight against the young middleweight was inevitable. A little more than one month later, Adesanya is echoing these comments, revealing the light heavyweight champion’s comments didn’t fall on deaf ears.
“It does tickle my loins,” Adesanya said. “It does make me feel some type of way. I like challenges. [Jones] is the GOAT right now, right? I’ve already killed one GOAT, I’m hunting the next.”
The first “GOAT” Adesanya is referring is, of course, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who fell to “The Last Stylebender” in the main event of UFC 234 in February.
It didn’t take long for Jones to respond to Adesanya’s comments as he took to Twitter to lay down a warning for the New Zealand native.
If you think you killed 44 yr old Anderson, you didn’t. I’m not really sure what fight you’ve been watching. You got past the legendary GOAT, now come fuck with the King of the jungle. I’ll make you call me daddy by the third.29.4K2:32 AM – Apr 13, 2019Twitter Ads info and privacy7,508 people are talking about this
But before fans can start fantasy booking this superfight, Adesanya and Jones have to get through their own upcoming title fights.
Adesanya (16-0) is slated to challenge Kelvin Gastelum for the UFC interim middleweight title at UFC 236 on Saturday night. The winner is expected to challenge injured champ Robert Whittakerin a title unification bout later this year.
Jones (24-1, 1 NC) is currently scheduled to put his 205-pound title on the line against Thiago Santos in the main event of UFC 239 in July. “Bones” previously returned to competition with back-to-back wins over Alexander Gustafson in December and Anthony Smith in March.
