Jose Ramirez’s February 10th title defense has its other half. Ramirez, who dominated Amir Imam for the WBC super lightweight belt in March and defended it with a decision over Antonio Orzoco in September, will face former lightweight title challenger Jose Zepeda in Fresno.
Zepeda (30-1, 25 KO) challenged Terry Flanagan for the vacant WBO belt in 2015, only to suffer a freak shoulder injury in the second round. After a clash of heads ended his return bout in the first round, he rattled off seven consecutive victories, most notably knocking out undefeated Carlos Diaz Ramirez this past June.
Ramirez (23-0, 16 KO) remains in a weird spot considering how much of the division’s talent took part in the Super Series, but Zepeda is another in a string of solid opposition, and I’m glad the latter is getting another shot at the big time after his bad luck against Flanagan.
