According to ESPN, Eddie Hearn is looking to make a deal for his fighter, Scott Quigg, to face Golden Boy’s Joseph Diaz Jr later this year in a super featherweight bout.
Dan Rafael reports that Hearn has “reached out” to Golden Boy about the fight, which would be a good matchup for the fighters and for fight fans.
Diaz (27-1, 14 KO) is slated to fight on Saturday, when he faces veteran Charles Huerta (20-5, 12 KO) on the DAZN card from Indio, California. It will be the 26-year-old Diaz’s first fight at 130 pounds. He challenged Gary Russell Jr for a featherweight title in May 2018, and was outboxed, losing a decision to the talented titleholder.
Diaz returned in August, eager to get back on the horse, and won a decision over Jesus Rojas, but now has designs on making moves at 130.
Quigg (35-2-2, 26 KO) is 30 and kind of at the point where he needs a big win. The former super bantamweight titleholder missed weight for a featherweight title opportunity last March, but still fought and broke Oscar Valdez’s jaw in defeat. Quigg’s nose was broken in the 12-round war.
Quigg officially moved up to 130 on Oct. 20, beating Mario Briones in an undercard fight in Boston.
