Joseph Parker aiming for rematch with Dillian Whyte

Joseph Parker’s promoter David Higgins says they are unlikely to appeal Parker’s loss to Dillian Whyte, instead looking to return late this year and perhaps get a rematch with Whyte.

From Sky:

“If we were offered to get a rematch with Dillian Whyte, we’d take it. Whether Dillian is ready or willing to take a rematch, I don’t know, but I think even he will be aware that a concussed Parker nearly came back and got him at the end. He would probably see it as quite a high-risk fight.”

Parker (24-2, 18 KO) has lost two straight this year to Anthony Joshua and Whyte, but came close to rallying in the latter fight, dropping Whyte (24-1, 17 KO) in the 12th and final round.

Right now, Whyte is fairly short on options. Eddie Hearn reportedly made a substantial offer to Deontay Wilder to face Whyte, but that’s not happening. Anthony Joshua is busy, facing Alexander Povetkin on September 22, and won’t return after that until April 2019, when Whyte hopes to get a rematch with Joshua.

So Whyte is looking to stay busy late this year, but not in a totally lousy fight, either. There’s been talk of him rematching Dereck Chisora, but Whyte has said he’s not interested in that. Still, that or a rematch with Parker sound like the best options he has in terms of money and staying in the public eye. Both fights are dangerous, and could knock him out of line to face Joshua or Wilder.

So we’ll see what happens, but Parker and team sound ready to go again if the call comes.
