Former UFC welterweight contender Josh Koscheck will finally make his Bellator MMA debut, as part of the ‘Fedor vs. Mitrione’ main card.
It’s been nearly two years since Bellator MMA signed former UFC title challenger Josh Koscheck, but he’s yet to actually compete inside the Bellator cage. On Saturday, February 18th, we’ll finally be seeing him fight again, as the promotion announced on Tuesday that he’s lined up for a Bellator 172 showdown against Mauricio Alonso. The newly announced matchup will open up the Spike TV main card broadcast.
Koscheck (17-10) joined Bellator MMA as a free agent signing in June 2015. The welterweight veteran completed his UFC run by losing five consecutive bouts, including a guillotine submission vs. Erick Silva in a fight he accepted on short notice. The 39-year-old was supposed to make his Bellator MMA debut last January against Matt Secor, in Koscheck’s hometown of Fresno, California, but withdrew due to injury.
Alonso (12-7, 1 NC) has fought just once under the Bellator MMA banner, losing to Nick Pica by unanimous decision at Bellator: Dynamite 1 in September 2015. The 36-year-old Brazilian has since spent his time on the regional circuit, defeating Mike Persons and Justin Baesmanby unanimous decision. This will be Alonso’s first fight at 170 lbs since 2014.
Bellator 172 is headlined by a heavyweight bout between the legendary Fedor Emelianenkoand the heavy-handed Matt Mitrione. Lightweight contenders Josh Thomson and Patricky Freire serve as the co-headliners at the SAP Arena in San Jose, California.
