By Jeff Aranow: In explaining why, he chose to lash out on social media recently, heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua says he felt the need to bite back at Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury and Joseph Parker due to the things they were saying about him.
Joshua says his style isn’t to bark back and forth with his opponents for months on end. He prefers to do his talking inside the ring, but he just felt there was a need to go after Wilder, Parkre and Fury after listening to the things they were saying about him.
Joshua said this about Parker recently on Twitter: “Joseph Parker, sips tea, continues to read tweets & refreshes email.. Still No Offer.”
In a Tweet aimed at Deontay Wilder, Joshua said this: “A little word on the Wilder fight. Ready & waiting for the offer.”
On the same day, Joshua targeted Tyson Fury with this comment about his weight: : “Tyson Fury, get fit you fat f***.”
In an effort to explain why he made those Tweets, Joshua said this to Sport 360:
“Sometimes if a dog barks at you so many times the other dog needs to bite back. I try to be professional but remember this is a fighting sport and you have to meet fire with fire now and again. Sometimes if a dog barks at you so many times, the other dog needs to bite back and make sure the other dog puts his tail between his legs. And that’s what you have to do with Tyson Fury sometimes. And that’s all it was, I just had to bite back.”
Joshua, 27, will never win a war of words with Wilder, Fury and Parker, because there’s too many of them, and combined they can keep up the constant barrage of criticism for months and even years if they wish.
Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) just needs to fight all of them as soon as possible so that he can prove to the boxing public that he’s better than them. Once Joshua beats them, it will quiet them down. If Joshua loses to one of them, then he’s going to have to get used to being criticized, since the boxing public will surely go after him at that point and say he was always overrated and never as good as people thought he was.
”2018, even though there’s a lot of talk – in reality, isn’t going to be like Joseph Parker, Wilder and Tyson Fury all in one year,” said Joshua.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants him to fight all 3 of them [Fury, Wilder and Parker] in 2018, but that’s not realistic. Hearn hasn’t locked up the negotiations with Parker and Wilder yet. From the comments made from Team Parker about the offer from Hearn not being to their liking, it’s unclear whether that fight can be made. Parker wants a 60-40 split of the revenue for a fight with Joshua. Wilder wants a 50-50 split. Someone will need to give in for those fights to be made. I don’t think it’s going to be Hearn that will agree to give those fighters what they want in terms of the money split.
