As Tony Bellew gets ready for what he anticipates will be a tough, tough fight against undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk this weekend, heavyweight titleholder Anthony Joshua gives Sky Sports some of his insight about the match-up. Joshua doesn’t hide the fact that his heart is rooting for Bellew, but he says he understands the reality of the situation.
“I really want him to win, so my passion is with him, regardless. Then, from an entertaining point of view, Usyk is like a perfect boxer, so I hope Bellew is working on his counter-punches as well, because that’s the way to knock him out – let him tippy-tap and then explode.
”As we’ve seen Bellew can counter-punch and he’s got a dirty left hook, and if he can land that I think he’ll do well.”
Joshua would continue by saying that while he’s aware that Usyk is rightfully the favorite in this bout, he also knows that from middleweight on up it only takes one shot to change a fight, and the possibility of Bellew landing that punch makes the fight intriguing.
If Usyk emerges victorious over Bellew, there has been some speculation that he may eventually try to challenge Joshua for his heavyweight titles. But first things first…
