BOXING NEWS-By Fightnews.com

Super bantamweight Cesar “Corazon” Juarez (19-5, 15 KOs) and super lightweight Abraham “The Swift” Alvarez (21-9-1, 10 KOs) both arrived in San Francisco Wednesday confident and ready to get into the ring Saturday night at the San Mateo Event Center for ALA Promotions’ “Fists of the Future.”

Juarez, who arrived with his father Margarito and his trainer Ricardo Juarez Baltazar, will face unbeaten WBO #2, IBF #4, WBC #10 junior featherweight “Prince” Albert Pagara (26-0, 18 KOs), while Alvarez, who arrived with manager Luis Zapari, takes on WBO #1 junior welterweight Jason “El Niño” Pagara (38-2, 23 KOs).

Here’s what they had to say…

Cesar Juarez:

“I prepared more than two months in Mexico City. For me it wouldn’t be a surprise to defeat the favored undefeated Pagara. The fight will be very competitive, but the Filipino won’t be able to endure my pace. If my rival comes to fight, it’ll be a classic Mexico vs. Philippines war!”

On his close loss to WBA super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire…

“I am better prepared now than I was against Nonito Donaire, whom I’d like to face again. But we are now focused on Pagara. We’re already on weight and waiting until Friday to get on the scale and Saturday to win!”

Abraham Alvarez:

Have you seen tapes of Jason Pagara fighting?

Yes, I’ve seen a few tapes of him fighting on the internet.

How do you see him as a fighter?

I think he’s a strong fighter, he’s aggressive, and he gives a good fight.

So how did you train for this fight, seeing your rival as someone who is aggressive?

I’ll try to use my jab and move around. I’ll focus on my power and body punches and my hook. I think he cannot block so many punches. He has a good defense, but I think if I’m quick enough, I will be able to hit him a lot.

Are you seeing a knockout this Saturday?

I’m hoping for me. My training has been great, so I really think I can win this fight.

Both Mexican and Filipino fighters will meet during the fight’s official press conference today at the San Mateo Event Pavillion at 11am, before the scheduled weigh-in on Friday at Serramonte Mall in Daly City.
