THAILAND’S Yutthana Kaensa survived a 7th round knockdown to escape with a unanimous decision win over Filipino boxer Michael Enriquez in their battle for the vacant WBA Asia flyweight title last Thursday in Bangkok.
The 19-year old Kaensa, a former interim WBA World flyweight champion, improved his record to 17 wins with 6 knockouts and one loss.
It was the 7th loss suffered by Enriquez, who previously bowed to Ardin Diale by a unanimous decision in their battle for the vacant WBC International flyweight title last year in Palawan.
Enriquez’s trainer Romeo “Dodong” Desabille, however, did not agreed with the result after his ward scored a knockdown in the 7th round.
“We lost (by) a hometown decision,” said Desabille on his Facebook wall.
“But thanks be to God walang masamang nangyari even galos wala sa kanyang mukha although sayang ang magandang WBA belt na hindi naming nadala,” (But thanks be to God nothing bad happened even a scratch on his face although we were not able to bring the beautiful WBA belt).
The 25-year old Enriquez of Sanman Gym from General Santos City dropped his record to 13-7-1, 9 KOs.
