Yutthansa “Stamp Kiatniwat” Kaensa of Thailand
DEFENDING WBA Asia flyweight champion Yutthansa “Stamp Kiatniwat” Kaensa of Thailand and Filipino challenger Macrea “The Barb Wire” Gandiongco both made their weights today for their championship fight tomorrow in Thailand.
Both tipped the scales at 112 lbs.
The 19-year old Kaensa is coming from three straight wins after losing his bid for the WBA world flyweight title against Kazuto Ioka last year in Japan.
Kaensa bounced back with a unanimous decision against Rajesh then crushed Filipino Michael Enriquez also by UD in Bangkok last June 29.
Kaensa previously duplicated his UD win against Enriquez last Sept. 22 in Ayutthaya, Thailand.
Gandiongco, on the other hand, lost by a majority decision to compatriot Eranio Semillano in their championship fight for the vacant Philippine super flyweight title last Sept. 30 at the Elorde Sports Complex.
The 25-year old Gandiongco from Misamis Oriental has 25 wins with seven knockouts, five losses and three draws.
Gandiongco is a former WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council flyweight and WBO Asia Pacific flyweight champion.
He also fought but lost to Nawaphon Kaikanha for the WBC Asian Boxing Council flyweight title in May 19, 2016.
Three months later, Gandiongco bowed to Suriyan Kaikanha by retirement in Round 5 for the WBC Asian Boxing Council bantamweight in Pathum Thani.
Gandiongco earlier dropped his bid for the IBO Inter-Continental light flyweight title against Luzuko Siyo in 2014 in East London.
He only settled to a technical draw with Buaphan Khamrang in their battle for the interim PABA super flyweight crown in 2015 in Ayutthaya.
Gandiongco, however, said that he is ready to win against Kaensa.
“Nag-handa po ako ng mabuti sa laban namin,” (I’ve prepared well for our fight),” said Gandiongco.
