After undergoing double hernia surgery, recently crowned UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is looking forward for his return against who he refers to as, ‘you know who.’
Obviously, Usman is referring to former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington, who had a run-in with Usman and the champ’s manager Ali Abdelaziz following his title win over Tyron Woodley at UFC 235.
Talking recently when he went live on his Instagram account, Usman reacted to his hernia surgery.
“I had knee surgery before, I thought this was going to be like that,” Usman said. “This ain’t that at all – at all. This (expletive) different.”
Usman said that before his fight with Woodley he suffered a fractured foot. He expanded on this by not only was a foot injury holding him back, but a knee issue was also causing him problems
“I’ve been on one leg for years now,” Usman said. “So to be able to open up and use my kicks will make me so much more dangerous, it wouldn’t even be fair once I start to use some of the weapons we work on.
“Once I go into these fights, and we have to go through the ringer to prepare for them, and we know I’m not 100 percent going in, winning is the most important thing and dominating is the most important thing, and that’s what we’ve been doing.”
Usman’s manager Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie that surgery for his knee injury is not yet necessary at the moment. Speaking on his hospital bed, Usman also teased his comeback against ‘you know who.’
