Cage Warriors light heavyweight champion Karl Moore will attempt to become the promotion’s first two-weight world champion since Conor McGregor when he fights for the vacant CWFC heavyweight title in Antwerp on Nov. 25.
Moore (8-1) takes on Italian heavyweight Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli in the main event at the Lotto Arena, which marks the promotion’s first event on Belgian soil.
Belfast native Moore captured the light heavyweight title in his last outing in the main event of Cage Warriors 81 at Dublin’s 3 Arena when he faced off against former TUF contestant and Bellator fighter, Josh Clark.
After suffering his sole loss to UFC light heavyweight Paul Craig in 2015, Moore recorded back-to-back first round victories over Prince Aounallah and Paco Estevez.
In going five rounds with Clark to claim the belt, the Fight Academy Ireland proponent answered a lot of questions fans had about his cardio, having significantly beefed up his frame since a chronic knee injury forced him to the weight room early last year.
Cerilli (10-2) rides a three-fight win streak going into his bout with the Irishman with his most recent victory coming against Poland’s Lukasz Parobiec in July.
McGregor was signed by the UFC after capturing Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight title in back to back fights in 2012.
According to Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan, the UFC will take note of Moore should he manage to capture his second promotional belt, but Cerilli is more than capable of giving him a solid challenge on the night.
“Karl Moore has a huge opportunity to become our first two-weight world champion since Conor McGregor,” said Boylan, in a statement released by Cage Warriors.
“And if he’s successful in Antwerp on November 25, I’m sure a lot of people – including the UFC – will be paying very close attention to him. But he has a tough test in front of him. Cerilli is tough and in good form. I’m looking forward to a great title fight.”
