On Wednesday, the UFC officially announced that one-time strawweight title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz will welcome Invicta FC standout Jodie Esquibel to her home country when the Octagon lands in the Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland on Oct. 21.
This will be Kowalkiewicz’s first time fighting in Poland since February 2015 when she earned a split decision nod over Kalindra Faria in the KSW promotion, her last fight before joining the UFC. The 31-year-old Kowalkiewicz (10-2), who hails from Lodz, is on the first losing streak of her career, having failed to wrest the 115-pound title from Joanna Jedrzejczyk last November, and then being submitted by Claudia Gadelha in her most recent outing this past June.
Esquibel (6-2) will be making her UFC debut after having spent the last four years with the Invicta promotion. A Jackson Wink representative, Esquibel holds notable decision wins over current Ultimate Fighter 26 cast member DeAnna Bennett and atomweight contender Jinh Yu Frey.
UFC Fight Night 118 does not currently have a main event scheduled.
