Katie Taylor planning to make Boston home

Katie Taylor [10(5)-0] is delighted with the chance to spread the KT gospel in America this weekend.

Taylor believes another show-stealing performance in her WBA and IBF world lightweight title defense against Cindy Serrano at the TD Garden on Saturday night can only help her build her Stateside profile as she attempts to become boxing’s first genuine crossover female star.

The 32-year-old is sure to be a crowd favourite with the Irish fans at the arena in Boston and it seems Matchroom and DAZN are looking to create a home away from home for the Olympic medalist in and around the area.

Taylor is expecting to see a sea of green on a card that also includes James Tennyson in a super featherweight world title fight, Gorey heavy Niall Kennedy, and Sean McComb, and is determined to make the most of the platform afforded.

“I’m so excited about this fight,” said Taylor.

“The fact it’s in Boston means it’s going to be like a home from home for me in there with all the Irish support.”

“I love fighting in the US and this is a really big fight with a big name on a huge platform in Boston and on DAZN. These are the kinds of fights that I am in the sport for,” she added.

Taylor’s fight with Serrano [27(10)-5(0)-1] will be shown live on Sky Sports however the DAZN platform is perhaps key.

America is seen as the long-term destination for Taylor and Irish-heavy cities such as Boston and New York look set to be frequently tapped.

Taylor, who is yet to box in Ireland as a pro, feels she is building a fanbase in the States following her unification win over Victoria Bustos back in April and she heaped praise the way of promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.

“It’s been an incredible journey so far. I am probably the highest-paid female fighter in the World thanks to Eddie and Matchroom, I spoke to a lot of promoters before I spoke to Eddie and he really did have the same vision that I had.”

“Eddie was as excited as me about the future, and now I have the chance to be a part of the new venture with DAZN too which is great for me. I am developing a fan base in the US as well as back home in Ireland and the UK, it’s such an exciting time for me and I am loving the pro game.”
