The semifinal cruiserweight bout of the World Boxing Super Series tournament between WBC champion Mairis Briedis (23-0, 18 KOs) and Aleksandr Usyk (13-0, 11 KOs) will be held at the Riga Arena in Latvia on January 27, 2018.
Briedis, 32, thrilled thousands of fans crowding the Arena Riga, on September 30, when he defeated Cuban Mike Perez by unanimous decision. For his part Usyk, 2012 Olympic champion, has expressed his desire to unify the championships of the division and take home the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
Both fighters presented the pre-weighing of 30 days. Briedis complied with the MRI plus all the exams required by the WBC, however Usyk must still present them. Given the professionalism of this fighter and his team, we have no doubt that he will do this as soon as possible.
We very much appreciate the work of William Boodhoo, who is responsible for following up on all of these vital requirements.
