KENIA DEFENDS WBC INTERIM TITLE WITH PANACHE!

By WBCboxing.com

Kenia “Jaguarcita” Enriquez convincingly defended her WBC interim light flyweight female crown with a power punching unanimous decision over talented challenger Jessia Nery Plata.

The Star fight at the CUM of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora in another glittering promotion of Zanfer and ARA promotions, it was broadcast via Azteca 7 throughout Mexico.

The scorecards were 96-93, 97-93 and 97-92 all in favor of Enriquez, who dominated for long spells during the ten rounds, clearly showing she`s destined for the next stage against Absolute WBC Champion Esmeralda Moreno

A relaxed and smiling Kenia (20-1-0, 9KO`s), seized the initiative from the opening bell raining blows down on the composed, no frills stylist Jessica Nery Plata (22-2-0, 3 ko’s), who had to endure and withstand a firestorm. She was jolted, jarred and buffeted, but not overwhelmed, drawing down deep into the well of her bucket loads of experience as a former WBC Youth Champion.

Kenia was very aggressive and had it mostly her own way until the sixth round, when patient Nery, who`d weathered the brickbats onslaught, started to get through with sharp and effective counterpuncher attacks. A huge right uppercut from Kenia in the seventh round, snapped back Jessica`s head and stemmed the tide, handing the initiative back to the champion. Jessica was then punished with hard overhead rights.

It takes two to make a truly great fight! T he calm, brave and collected Jessica fought back magnificently in the next round, stinging Kenia with a left right combination in the ebbing seconds leading to the bell. In round nine both landed hard. Firstly Kenia with a wicked right hook to the head and then Jessica with a venomous answering left hook, which hurt the champion, who`s nose had been bleeding on an off since the fourth.

Both went hammer and tongs at it, in the tenth and final round. The key to the whole fight, was ingrained in the greater power of the Champion. A superbly timed counter right hook decked an off balance Jessica, who`s expression of wry frustration told the entire tale. Not badly hurt but knowing the fight was now lost, she gathered herself, got up and intrepidly fought on, but in vain.
