After losing to Al Iaquinta in a rematch last December, Kevin Lee decided to make changes and jump to welterweight. His debut at 170-pounds was against former 155-pound champion Rafael dos Anjos, which did not end well.
“The Motown Phenom” was able to keep himself in the fight, landing kicks of his own and engaging the clinch, only to be tapped out via arm-triangle submission in the fourth round. In a post-fight Instagram video he put up, Lee bared all of his sentiments.
I don’t know what happened out there tonight. I thought I did everything right leading up to this fight. Tried to eliminate every little distraction, everything that wasn’t good for me. I swear I felt like everything was falling into place. I was talking to me even before I walked out there, still wasn’t enough.
This sh-t, sometimes, it’ll be like the highest highs and the lowest lows. This sh-t really makes you question what you believe in. I’ve been through a lot of sh-t in my life, this really ain’t gonna be sh-t.
Lee is now on a two-fight skid, as he holds a record of 17-5 (with 10 wins by stoppage).
