Unbeaten British super flyweight Khalid Yafai, who holds the WBA “world” title at 115 pounds, says he’s looking to unify and/or fight the big names in the hot division, but that doesn’t mean he’s looking past his upcoming bout.
Yafai (23-0, 14 KO) faces David Carmona (21-5-5, 9 KO) on Saturday in Fresno, California, on the Jerwin Ancajas-Jonas Sultan undercard. The fights will air on ESPN+ in the United States and Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.
“A unification could be next, but all I’m thinking about is this fight, looking good and getting the win. Then, afterwards, we will sit down with the team and see what is next.
“I will fight anyone and I want to establish myself as the man in the division. When any of these guys (champions) get offered to me, I will be more than ready and happy to take them out, one after another.”
The 28-year-old Yafai could be looking to face IBF titleholder Ancajas or Sultan, if Sultan pulls off the upset, which would make sense with the fights paired together. There’s also WBC titleholder Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, considered the No. 1 fighter in the division.
How do you think Yafai would fare against the best in the division?
