Georgia’s Irakli Gvinjilia was sentenced to three years for committing a robbery in Ukraine.
A kickboxing champion has been arrested in Moscow for his role in a theft during a training camp in Ukraine several years ago.
Georgia’s Irakli Gvinjilia, a 2004 K-1 champion, stole money from a café customer at a gas station in 2012 while in Zhytomyr, Ukraine for a training camp. He later fled from law enforcement and returned to Russia, which then brought about an international search for the kickboxer in an attempt to extradite him back to Ukraine. (h/t CrimeRussia)
The news was officially announced by Irina Wolf, an official representative of the Ministry of internal Affairs in Russia.
“The staff of Interpol of the MIA of Russia and the Main Directorate of criminal investigation Ministry of internal Affairs upon request of the competent authorities of Ukraine detained a citizen of Georgia Irakli Gvinjilia, Zhytomyr sentenced by court to three years of imprisonment for committing theft,” said Wolf.
Gvinjilia was later caught stealing 70,000 rubles ($1.185) from a representative Liberal Democratic Party of Russia at a café in Moscow, but was released on the condition that he doesn’t leave the country.
