Bellator MMA will finish up 2016 with a December 16th card in Dublin, Ireland, which is being co-promoted with BAMMA.
The final Bellator MMA event of 2016 will be their first ever event staged in Dublin, Ireland. On Wednesday, the promotion announced that light heavyweight contender Muhammed Lawal will fight Satoshi Ishii in the Bellator 169 main event, with King Mo moving up to heavyweight for this bout. In the co-main event spot, undefeated SBG prospect James Gallagher will fight an opponent TBD.
Lawal (19-5, 1 NC) lost a somewhat controversial unanimous decision to Phil Davis at Bellator 154. The loss snapped a seven-fight winning streak, which included three victories in the Rizin FF World Grand Prix, culminating in a KO of Jiri Prochazka in the final.
Ishii (14-6-1) was KO’d by Prochazka in the quarterfinal stage of that same Grand Prix. The Japanese judoka and 2008 Olympic gold medalist made his Bellator debut in June, losing by split decision to Rampage Jackson in the Bellator: Dynamite 2 main event. His notable wins include Tim Sylvia, Jeff Monson, and Pedro Rizzo.
In addition to the Bellator card, BAMMA 27 will take place on the same night as part of a special co-promotion. BAMMA 27’s billing will have a pair of championship bouts, as highly-touted French bantamweight champion Tom Duquesnoy (13-1, 1 NC) squares off against Alan Philpott (16-8) in the headliner, while Martin Stapleton (18-4) fights Ronnie Mann (25-8-1) for the vacant featherweight crown (which was also held by Duquesnoy before he decided to stay at 135).
Bellator 169: Lawal vs. Ishii airs on Spike TV at 9 PM ET/PT on Friday, December 16th. There are no details on whether or not the BAMMA fights will also be broadcast in the US.
