Japanese flyweight champ, WBA#8/WBC#12/IBF#11/WBO#11 Takuya Kogawa (28-4, 13 KOs), 112, successfully retained his national belt as he defeated JBC#4 Takehiro Arai (8-4-3, 4 KOs) , 112, by a unanimous decision (97-93 twice, 98-92) over ten hard-fought rounds on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan. Kogawa, a fast-punching speedster making his fourth defense, was in command in the first half, leading on points by open scoring system: all 49-46. Arai, handled by ex-world 108-pound titlist Katsuo Tokashiki, showed his heart by retaliating with southpaw combinations, but Kogawa maintained the initiative down the stretch.
