THAILAND’S Apinan Kongsong and Pipat Chaiporn scored contrasting wins against their challengers to both retain their International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific titles last August 23 at the Suamlum Night Bazaar in Ratchadaphisek, Bangkok.
Kongsong kept his IBF Pan Pacific super lightweight title by scoring a unanimous decision to Filipino challenger Adam Diu “Big Daddy” Abdulhamid of General Santos City.
The two judges both scored 115-113 while the other judge also gave it to Kongsong at 117-111.
Abdulhamid’s trainer Romeo “Dodong” Desabille of Sanman Boxing Gym, however, did not agreed with the result.
Desabille said that Abdulhamid was able to connect his punches but was not able to knockdown the defending champion.
“Dali lang maigo ang kontra pero wala na knockdown. Lamang gyud me sa dula pero pilde me sa ballpen tungod sa judges (The opponent can easily be hit but there was no knockdown. We dominated the fight but got lost on the ballpen because of the judges),” said Desabille.
“Ginawa naman po naming ang lahat ngunit hindi po pinalad,” (We did all we can but we were not lucky), said Desabille
It was Kongsong’s first title defense of the crown he won via a 2nd round technical knockout against another Filipino Junar Adante last June 21.
The 22-year old Kongsong remained unbeaten with 10 straight wins and seven knockouts while Abdulhamid dropped to 11-4-0, 4 KOs.
Meanwhile, Chaiporn also retained his IBF Pan Pacific super bantamweight title by stopping Indonesian Rivo Rengkung in 2:29 of the 5th round.
Rengkung got a nasty cut to suffer his 24th defeat against 36 wins and six draws while the 32-year old Chaiporn scored his 44th victory against 10 losses and one draw.
