It looks like Chan Sung Jung’s return to active competition just hit a major long-term roadblock.
Fans of the ‘Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung waited nearly 4 years to see him return to the cage following his 4th Round TKO loss to Jose Aldo back in 2013. A series of injuries and some mandatory military service put a hold on his career, but when he finally did make it back, it was almost like he’d never left at all.
The Korean Zombie returned to action back in February, against top ranked featherweight Dennis Bermudez. He ate punches, he came forward, and then he won by spectacular KO, just like old times.
Unfortunately, also just like old times, it looks like fans are going to be waiting a long time before they see KZ back in the cage. Chan Sung Jung was preparing to fight Ricardo Lamas at UFC 214, when he was pulled from the bout due to a knee injury. On June 5th he provided an update on the injury via Instagram, and it’s all bad news:
Early reports stated that KZ could be out up to six months following surgery to repair his knee. But, with the diagnosis above, that time-frame seems likely to be much longer. No word yet on who Ricardo Lamas will face in July with Chan Sung Jung forced onto the sidelines.
